I am well and truly getting into holiday mode (21days! Not that I’m counting…) until arriba Mexico!
The real countdown begins now to look and feel remotely ok on the beach and by the pool. Don’t get me wrong, this isn’t the first I have thought about it, I have been punishing my body with low low calories and excruciating 8 minute abs for a good few months now (not sure why I just used the word ‘good’ as it is far from it, I am craving chocolate more than I ever thought possible!)
Now I am turning my attention to prepping myself to acquire the best tan possible and radiantly glow on the sun lounger!
Tan
No one wants to be the girl that is so pale she deflects the sun! So my suggestion is to exfoliate your skin, then tan tan tan. Here I am extremely biased and only use one product that I swear by, I am so defensive of this product and big it up like a proud parent. It is… (drum roll) Famous Dave’s!!!!
Famous Dave’s, £21.95
It is a foam tan which makes it extremely easy to apply (please use a tanning mitt to avoid creasote hands!!) and it is quite dark upon application making it easy to see where you’ve been and avoid those dreaded streaks. The only down side I can see to this product is the distinctive ‘biscuity’ smell of fake tan which I find even odourless tans still smell of (see there I am defending it to the ground!)
Hair
It is a fact that no matter how hard you try your hair dries out on holiday, combat this with a pre-holiday conditioning session and trim. Some great products for this are leave-in conditioners and hot oil treatments. Then take sun-protecting products with you, one I stand by is Boots own brand ‘Sun, Swim and Gym’, it always keeps my hair hydrated and glossy.

Sun, Swim & Gym, £3.05
Sun Cream
It goes without saying that you should cover yourself head to toe regularly, if in doubt go for a higher factor, burn is never a good look. I love Piz Buin tan intensifier as it does what it says on the bottle but also comes in a high SPF unlike tanning oils which just leave you burnt, and let’s face it, are not good for you.

Piz Buin Tan Intensifier, £19.39
Moisturiser
This is a must have from the offset, I’m talking about on the plane before you even get to your destination. Try using a tinted moisturiser, that way you wont need to cover up with heavy foundation yet you won’t feel completely naked. Estee Lauder Day Wear Sheer Tint Release is a great tinted moisturiser and leaves you with a healthy glow whilst still providing much needed hydration.

On the Plane Tips
Try to wear either no make up or a minimal amount (I know the thought is terrifying) as this can clog your pores and leave you with a break out on the plane. If this is too much for you, take your make up off once you are on the plane and reapply before landing.
Moisturise well as the air-con on the plane will leave your skin dry and flaky. Reapply with a good quality moisturiser regularly throughout the flight.
Dry shampoo is a god send, I don’t know what it is about the plane but it always leaves me looking like I need to give my hair a good wash, just before landing pop to the toilet and give your hair a quick spritz and you’ll look much fresher. For me good old Batiste Original is the best, I didn’t find the ones with a hint of colour all that great, still leaves you with that grey look until you brush it through!

Batiste Dry Shampoo, £1.52
Lip balm! Your lips will dry out too and licking them may give temporary relief but will only help to dry them out further. Try to opt for a balm instead of a gloss as they are better for moisturising. Nivea Hyrdro Care is great for long lasting moisturisation meaning you don’t have to keep putting it on obsessively.

Nivea Hydro Care, £2.03
Now all that’s left is to panic buy and purchase way too many shorts, tops and dresses that will no doubt not leave my suitcase, get that dreaded wax and keep punishing my abs into oblivion. Thank god I only do this once a year…
