Quirky or disgusting?

Rachel Freire has whipped up quite a storm with her controversial dress made from 3000 cow and yak nipples. The SS collection is called Nippleocalypse, so really we should be expecting this shouldn’t we?

I would say it is most definitely a two sided argument, on the one hand the nipples are a recovered waste product from the leather trade otherwise to be thrown away. On the other hand part of me thinks it is repulsive, like there is no part sacred.

So, quirky or disgusting?

LFW: Meadham Kirchhoff RTW SS 2012

This collection caught my eye for obvious reasons…well it is fairly bright and fun!

It was full on pantomime madness, with white bubble wigs, bright colours, glitter and clown style make up. The imaginative concept played the perfect platform for the slightly outlandish clothes. Underneath all the teddy bears, hearts and rainbows there was great tailoring and structure.

I can’t help think some of the looks are a little crazy in comparison with other designers, however stripped down of the theatrical show and interesting hair and make up, I think they could be acceptable for the everyday non-pantomimer.

LFW: Temperley RTW SS 2012

Wow, just wow! The Temperley SS 2012 collection is beautiful.

Luxurious silks, floating behind, revealing French knickers and intricate embroidery. Dropped waist lines, head scarves and oversized sunglasses bring about thoughts of old school Hollywood glamour. To continue with the 20s feel the colours are very Art Deco, peaches, creams and black.

Draped fabric and cowl necks provide an effortless elegance while fringing and rara skirts add an element of fun to the otherwise very sophisticated collection.

Just take a look at the photos below, there is nothing about this collection I dislike. Pure classic elegance and stunning.

LFW: Mulberry RTW SS 2012

One collection that has really caught my eye so far this fashion week is Mulberry. There is such a big contrast within the collection yet it all still has the same elements tying it all together. There are bright yellows and pastel shades the shade of angel cake, then there are blacks, charcoals and navy. Yet all the looks have some aspect recurring throughout to bring it all together to form Mulberry’s signature eclectic British look.

The collection has taken inspiration from Blackpool illuminations and sitting on a pier by the sea in a rain mac, a typical British holiday in the seventies when creative director Emma Hill was growing up.

It really does sum up a British holiday in my opinion, there are the elements are Summer dressing in the colours and little shorts, teamed with the pac-a-mac style jackets to ward off that familiar cool breeze always present at the seaside.

I like the mixture of fabrics used and more specifically how they are used together such as the PVC style macs teamed with floaty chiffon maxi skirts. I love the socks and sandals combo, it’s such an eclectic little touch, as are the dogs in matching macs.

White wash

A recurring trend I have noticed whilst pouring over images of New York Fashion Week is white. There is a white wash, either designers have gone for an all out white collection or there are strong elements of it throughout.

White can be seen in floaty materials, structured dresses and masculine tailoring. It definitely brings thoughts of Spring Summer into mind.

Below are some NYFW collections that have featured white heavily…

Cushnie Et Ochs…

Kimberley Ovitz…

Diane von Furstenberg…

Jenny Packman…

It’s simply a case of optical illusion, no one will ever know…sshh.By creating panelling and using colour as a form of shade you can easily trick the eye into seeing a completely different shape. The celebrity that caught my eye for nailing this trend it Kate Winslet, she looks incredible…

Uniqlo +J final collection

This Autumn/ Winter sees the fifth and final +J collection for Uniqlo. The perfect partnership, Jil Sander and Uniqlo, have bought us beautifully simple pieces that are timeless and chic. The line was created in October 2009 and has added much value to the Japanese brand.

The motto says it all:

But now, sob sob, like all good things it must come to an end. Jil Sander has most definitely gone out with a bang though! The collection is smart, structured and stunning. The colour palette is Autumnal and understated, featuring deep reds, military greens, black, grey and dark brown. The colours only serve to highlight the structured silhouette and flawless tailoring.

The main pieces that take centre stage are the coats, luxurious wool and wool-blend materials in rich colours make you want to grab one and snuggle up into Winter.

I would definitely recommend taking a look and would highly suggest buying one of these timeless pieces, after all it will be a piece of history now!

+J, Uniqlo

Get Abbey Clancy’s racy GQ look

This woman amazes me, she’s had a baby and not that long ago, yet she looks absolutely stunning! And ladies, if you’ve got it, flaunt it!

Abbey wore a sheer lace dress, showing a lot of skin, from the Emanuel Ungaro Autumn 2011 collection to the GQ Awards. I’ve had a little look and there are some great copies of this, albeit not showing quite as much underwear.

Ark, £32.99 Slightly more reserved with only the shoulders, arms and the tiniest of the cleavage area on show.

Topshop, £48 A little more daring, with a twist of fabric protecting your modesty and a completely sheer back.

American Apparel, £50More in line with the Emanuel Ungaro dress is this American Apparel dress. In typical AA style, this leaves very little to the imagination. Just like Clancy.
