New Year’s Eve with Rare Opulence

I was having a last minute panic browse of dresses on the internet for my NYE outfit when I noticed several of the dresses I thought were pretty interesting and original were by Rare Opulence.I was actually scanning Topshop as my old faithful, it’s usually somewhere I find something, and the Rare Opulence dresses were dotted in amongst all the Topshop own brand and concession dresses.

I’ll be honest, I didn’t even know Rare had a diffusion line, Rare aren’t normally something I am crazy about, but I am impressed. They’re definitely not your average evening dress, definitely more suited to special occasions like NYE.

You can buy Rare Opulence dresses at Topshop.com and Rarefashion.co.uk

Star appeal

I hope you aren’t feeling as post-Christmas bluesy as me! Back to reality with a big bang…

However, I do have my Christmas treats to cheer me up, one of which is right there on the middle finger of my right hand. A few weeks ago during Vogue’s Online Fashion Week I created a My Wardrobe wish list and cheekily sent it over to my friend as a joke. So, imagine my shock and complete delight when on Christmas day I opened up a gift in a My Wardrobe bag and inside was a little Marc by Marc Jacobs from my one and only besty!!

I love silver jewellery and I love rings I can wear all the time. I like things a little quirky and unusual as opposed to the bog standard band rings so this ring is perfect and I love it!

Paperself paper lashes

It seems plain old mascara and falsies are out in the eyelash world, move in new reigning champion… paper eyelashes!

Paperself have some of the cutest, most intricate little lashes inspired by the Chinese paper cutting art. They’re absolutely amazing to look at and so detailed. The lashes come in full sets or smaller individual sections to go for a completely show stopping look or something a little more subtle.

Each of the designs have different meanings or you could just go for the ones you think are prettiest! Have a look for yourself at Paperself.

Be a little (Tara) Starlet

Tara Starlet is a vintage fashion brand born and bred in London Town. Taking inspiration from pin up girls and 50s Hollywood stars, the range is pure retro style.

It’s like taking a step back in style and what better way to transform yourself into the perfect pin up girl than kitting yourself out in some sexy vintage inspired underwear? I love all things girly and the 50s ladies certainly knew how to do girly! The Tara Starlet lingerie comes in black and nude and is edged with lace and embellished with cute bows.

Treat yourself, or that stunning gal in your life to a slip, cami, french knickers, or all! Authenticity is priority in the design so it feels like you’re getting (as I’m sure your mother/ grandmothers would say) real quality that you would have done back in the day! Visit Tara Starlet to take a look at the beautiful underwear as well as the other treats on there.

Nail play

Feeling very festive today and after watching It’s a Wonderful Life and Love Actually with hot chocolate and marshmallows it’s definitely Christmas time!

So with that in mind thought I’d try a festive nail look…

I applied a coat of Barry M Foil Effects Silver (319) and then used a pencil tip to apply polka dots of the Models Own Gold Digger (NP069) and Barry M Limited Edition Silver Glitter (142).

Walk of shame

Harvey Nichols have developed a clever viral advert for the festive season. Quite the opposite to the usual happy family scenes we tend to see on TV ads which in my opinion is a welcome change. It adds a bit of humour to the festive season, and let’s face it, we’ve all been there.

The ad features scantily clad women in revealing dresses making the walk of shame home after the night before. People stop and stare and you can see the girls feel uncomfortable and, like anyone who’s done a walk themselves knows, slightly ashamed. The final scene shows a woman dressed in a beautiful gold, festive dress looking proud and gorgeous, because… you guessed it, she’s wearing something from Harvey Nichols!

The strapline reads ‘Avoid the walk of shame this season’ , what the viral suggests is that if you are dressed in the beautiful clothes of the Harvey Nichols womenswear department you can walk proud and no one will turn their heads. It’s funny and clever and I like it.

Harvey Nichols are also suggesting we all get involved by sharing our own walk of shames by using #walkofshame on Twitter, almost like a pre-Christmas confessional…

Cheryl’s shoes

Cherly Cole’s shoe collection debuted today in association with Stylistpick.com

Cheryl says, “I want every girl to have something she can relate to.”

I’d say that’s pretty accurate as there is quite a mixture of styles, colours and themes throughout the collection. Each shoe has a quirky name to suit the style and give the collection a personality and make the range fun and “not dead serious”.

I love the Ri Ri boot, it’s fun and girly and also glamorous with the concealed heel and leopard print toe and ankle detail. The T.L.C boot conjures up thoughts of Winter walks, that may be because that’s what I really want to be doing now that I have embraced Winter and am feeling festive!

Whilst browsing Cheryl’s collection I would highly recommend completing the ‘my showroom’ quiz. It’s a bit of fun and Stylist Pick compile a personalised showroom with all sorts of goodies that match the answers you provided. Everything is £39.95 with free delivery and returns, and tailored to your style.

Nail play

Taking influence from Nail Porn (check ‘em out on Twitter), I had a little play with some nail polish and tried to do something a little different. Not too bad for a first attempt at something other than one colour, not great, but not too bad…

Sparkle Touch – Miss Sporty  |  500 Peppermint – Rimmel

291 Cobalt Blue – Barry M
