Today it is National Cleavage Day, now normally I don’t buy into all these weird and wonderful ‘National Days’ but this is one that should be celebrated! Not by drooling men, but by us ladies that are proud of our bangers!
I, myself, have fairly sizeable assets and they haven’t always been something I have entirely wanted sitting on my chest but as I have become older (and wiser) I have learnt to love them. Don’t get me wrong they are sometimes a bit of a pain to shoehorn into certain styles of tops but by god when they are, there’s a cleavage. So, let’s all celebrate boobs! Below are some tops to really showcase those lovely lady lumps… (eurgh I used a Black Eyed Peas lyric, apologies!)
Everywhere I look at the minute there are bright, block colour skirts, tops, shorts and shoes. If you were that way inclined you could dress from head to toe in every colour in the rainbow as there is more than enough to choose from out there right now. If you don’t however want to look like something from a bad children’s TV programme, these bright and colourful pieces are a great way to add a splash of Summer to your outfit.
Pastel shades seem to have been the overriding theme in the fashion world and everyone and their mothers have been shouting about it (myself included… Pretty Pastels & Sugar and Spice and all things nice ) but you can’t ignore the rainbow brights. Maybe this is the ironic middle finger to the girly look that you simply must wear…
I love it when I see talent from somewhere close to home, makes me feel proud in a way. That’s how I felt when I saw Fazane. Born and bred in Ilkeston, which is about half an hour away from my little home town. Her talent grown in the very same city as I studied at New College Nottingham then on to Derby University.
But more than a familiar connection, her designs are really quite cool. The two shirts below have an interesting twist on the standard straight up and button down shirts. I really like the funnel style neck on the Cath white shirt and the bat wing sleeves and unusual seams make it quirky. The Curly Sam black shirt has some really cool detailing on the back with the ribbed material. I love how they’re both completely see through, although the designs aren’t completely ‘out there’ it means you’d certainly stand out from the crowd.
If you feel like being ‘out there’ though you could always go for one of the below, love the risky nipple covers!
Fazane is definitely one to watch, there are some really interesting designs and some stand out pieces. I look forward to more to come…
I got these fun little postcards today from grapevine marketing. I think they’re really cute and attention grabbing and they sure cheered me up on a dull, foggy morning.
I was shopping at the weekend and couldn’t help but notice the striking resemblance between a top I spotted in Zara and that of those seen on the Louis Vuitton S/S 12 catwalk.
There’s quite a few pieces in Zara that are extremely similar in both colours and patterns. Personally I love that this is available on the high street, I adored the Louis Vuitton show and the pieces are really pretty and girly for the upcoming Summer months.
Yesterday I went to see the Marilyn exhibition that is currently on display at the Getty Images Gallery on Eastcastle Street. It’s one I’d definitely recommend, there really are some stunning images and the most exciting part for me, some of Marilyn’s outfits.
The exhibition has been running since 5th March but yet when I was there yesterday there was a constant flow of people coming in and out and wandering around. Heavy black frames were hung in groups or stories based on the images inside. Some larger images demanded attention and these tended to be the iconic glamorous Marilyn we are all familiar with. Some more personal and relaxed images gave a rare insight to the woman behind all the evening gowns, peroxide blonde quiff and that beauty spot.
Along one wall is a glass cabinet housing some of the famous outfits from the films Marilyn starred in and this is what I found most fascinating. I was looking at these gorgeous dresses and finding it difficult to comprehend that the one and only Marilyn Monroe, a woman we are all familiar with and most are in awe of, had once filled them out with her legendary curves.
Whilst looking at these outfits I overheard a mother and daughter’s conversation: Mum - ”She was a size 14 you know?”, Daughter – “Actually, she was a 16″. A simple snippet of a conversation sums up the goddess like status Marilyn will always have, two generations both trying to outwit each other with their knowledge of the movie star and model. Marilyn will always be a subject of admiration and wonder.
Marilyn runs until 23rd May 2012 at Getty Images Gallery, 46 Eastcastle Street, London, W1W 8DX, admission free.
“It started as the cool girl’s fancy dress of choice; now Day of the Dead skulls, along with Aztec prints, distressed denim and a heady trip of neon are mixing it up as spring’s most vibrant look. Motif T-shirts and stacks of friendship bracelets are an easy way into the trend, or keep it fresh and team loud prints on tops and dresses with sporty details or flashes of fluoro.”
Sitting here with a tissue stuffed up each nostril and the world’s wooliest head, this trend sure perks me up. It’s fun, bright and vibrant and takes me away to far warmer (and healthier) climes. Having visited Mexico last Summer, it’s fair to say I developed a soft spot for the printed and woven fabrics that were available everywhere and in many different forms. The colours were the first thing that grabbed my attention and the ancient aztec inspired patterns next.
I like ASOS’ quirky take on the trend with the inclusion of skulls and the splash of neon fluorescents. It’s almost a girly grundge take on the traditional Mexican theme. Now I just need this pesky British weather to make it’s mind up and give me the chance to showcase the look, or keep counting down the days until I can hop on the plane to a sunny Spain in the Summer!!
These amazing images below aren’t photographs as you would quite rightly presume, they are in fact pencil drawings by artist Paul Cadden. I was completely blown away, they are just so realistic and every detail is there. This guy is super talented…
If it’s not on the catwalks or the high street, it’s in print adverts. Everywhere I look at the moment there are sugary sweet pastel shades, girly lace, floral patterns and delicate detailing. Full skirts and tiny waists matched with dainty heels and sweet accessories make up the girly girl wardrobe.
It’s quite a welcome change to the predominately masculine trends we have seen and the dark colours dominating the high street and fashion shows. This is a far cry from what we have seen in the recent fashion weeks for Autumn/ Winter where it’s all military colours and shapes along with utility dressing. Perfect for the start of Spring.
