Home sweet home

Ok so firstly, sorry for being AWOL! But I do kind of have an excuse, I’m going to be a home owner and for anyone that’s gone through that process you’ll appreciate the stresses that come with it!!

With this in mind I’m afraid I’m going to be all about the home for the foreseeable future, and this post is the start… All you beautiful people that love fashion will surely appreciate the design though…

This is the start of a crazy collection of ideas and things I love, I was going to buy some home magazines but then I thought what is the point to this when there is the one and only PINTEREST! This place is totally incredible for gathering ideas and determining how you want to decorate your own little pad.

Dream Home

Absolutely love this idea and whilst snooping around my garage and shed I actually found an old wooden ladder which will work a treat to create something like this!

Holiday outfits

So I have been AWOL for a while now, and to be perfectly honest I still don’t feel ‘back’. My holiday was absolutely incredible and I’m not ready to face reality yet, still! When I have a moment (I’m desperately trying to fill every minute of my time to refrain from having a post holiday melt-down) I will write a proper post about Espanyol and the amazing FIB festival in Benicassim.

I made it my mission to take outfit post pics every night before heading out and I did so well at remembering… then some nasty Spanish man stole my phone in Barcelona on the last day!! So unfortunately these four below are all that remain thanks to some handy Instagram uploading… major sad face!

Top left: Tie-dye t-shirt – Urban Outfitters  |  Shorts – Topshop  |  Sandals – New Look

Top right: Playsuit – Topshop  |  Necklace – New Look  |  Feather earrings – New Look  |  Belt – Dorothy Perkins  |  Trainers – Nike Blazers

Bottom left: Top – Topshop  |  Skirt – Beyond Retro  |  Cuff – H&M

Bottom right: Dress – Topshop  |  Belt – F&F @ Tesco  |  Sunglasses – Primark

The one thing I really loved about my little Spanish travels is the chance I got to mix up my style, Benicassim allowed me to rock the festival look of pretty much anything goes with tie-dye t’s, Supreme cap, Nike Blazers, hot pants etc, Valencia was chilled out holiday glam with pretty dresses and tops teamed with flat sandals and Barcelona was a chance to dress up in heels and statement jewellery.

In an effort to fight off reality I’m off to another festival this weekend (in quite different circumstances, muddy field in wellies vs sandals and shorts in the sun!), I promise I’ll get back to posting more often that once a month…

Latest in Beauty box – Liz Earle and Elemis

Ok so it’s taken me a while to get back around to reviewing more stuff from the Latest in Beauty box I first mentioned here. But in my defense, I’ve been busy planning for my holiday and I wanted to make sure I properly used the products in order to be able to review them well.

The product I want to focus on next is Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser. The cleanser comes with a pure muslin cloth to help remove the cleanser along with a whole host of impurities. I LOVE this product! I’m a big fan of Liz Earle products, I have yet to come across one I haven’t liked or noticed a pleasant improvement with.

Starting with a dry face, you squeeze a little of the cleanser onto your fingers and massage across the face in a circular motion. You should have a sink of warm/ hot water in which you can submerge the muslin cloth, ring out so that it is damp. Gently remove the cleanser with clean areas of the muslin for each part of the face.

This cleanser really does feel super luxurious, I don’t know if it’s the addition of the muslin cloth that makes the whole experience more spa like and professional, but either way it’s feels really good like you have had a real deep cleanse. I’m a bit of a weirdo in that I love seeing all the dirt that has been washed away and the cloth allows that very clearly, it makes you realise how important a good cleanser is!

The product left my skin feeling silky soft, not oily or dry, and visibly clearer. I really really like this cleanser and it’s not unobtainable, it’s £14.25 for the 100ml starter kit that comes with the muslin cloth, which I think is a completely acceptable price for a high quality cleanser. Second up I wanted to share my thoughts on the Elemis Sp@ Home Pro-collagen Body Cream. Now I wasn’t blown away by this product. I felt like you needed quite a bit to work up enough of a smooth coverage to feel moisturised. There was also a very unwanted glittery shimmer which I had no idea about until I had smothered my entire body in the stuff, not great when I was on my way into work!!

I feel like it’s a massive contradiction, it’s an anti-ageing cream yet has a sparkly glitter element that mimics what you may find in a teenage gimmicky product and it’s £49 for 200ml. I’m a little disappointed as I normally really like Elemis products, perhaps they should stick to the salon and spa products rather than spa at home products. Click here for more information.

Denim is dead, well dyed…

I had a pair of denim high waisted cut offs that I loved, then I hit it hard and lost two dress sizes. There’s that age old problem, you’re obviously ecstatic that you’re smaller but then all your clothes don’t fit! On the one hand you can go out and shop shop shop but on the other your beloved old clothes are redundant.

I wanted to update my dear shorts and I hot washed them and tumble dried them oh at least ten times, this unlike what so many people were saying didn’t work for my beauties. I decided to get stitchy and do it the old school way, pinning and sewing, they now fit a dream just like they used to!

Topshop high waisted shorts – before

Obviously losing weight excited me enough to go out and repurchase my entire wardrobe and therefore a few more pairs of denim shorts were purchased. So I updated my oldies further by dyeing them black  as I don’t own a black pair. I initially wanted to dip dye them but I wasn’t happy with the results, with the dye being black there wasn’t a big impact like you would get with a brighter dye so I decided to dye them a flat black.

Dip dyeing didn’t achieve the desired result so I went for full colour

Dylon Black Velvet hand dye

Dyeing is so easy and such a quick and simple way to change things, I used Dylon Black Velvet for hand wash and just followed the instructions which are pretty much to mix it, add salt and stir occasionally. Ah voila new shorts! As is often the case, the thread is often pre-treated and doesn’t take the colour but I think with denim this is no problem.

The updated product

It does leave you thinking “what else can I dye!?”

Raf’s debut for Dior

Subtle and simple as ever, Raf Simon’s debut collection for Dior in Paris stood true to his signature style that was often displayed at Jil Sander but with hints of archived Dior characteristics. The collection was still relatively simplistic for a couture show but the subtle embellishments and embroidery added a feminine edge and the bright lips and slicked down hair added glamour.

Huge skirts highlighted the cinched waists and the sheer tops added a risque feel to the otherwise ladylike collection. Cigarette pants teamed with killer pointy court shoes rang true to the Parisian setting but the floating full skirts they were teamed with retained the elegant edge.

All in all a pretty stunning debut collection…

Shopping outfit and other stuff

T-Shirt - Topshop  |  Skirt – Topshop (an oldy)  |  Belt – Primark (an oldy)  |  Chain – Topshop  |  Watch – River Island (an oldy)  | Shoes – New Look

I went and did more holiday shopping Saturday, I have serious issues. I have begun the ritual of packing and unpacking a million and one times and it’s safe to say I have enough clothes to make four ensemble changes a day! So I certainly don’t need more but it’s just too much fun! This is what I wore for the day, flats for some hardcore shopping striding.

Photos to sum up the weekend…

Hackney weekend

Second festival of the Summer down,  Radio One’s Hackney Weekend. Minus the crazy British weather which had us burnt and then drenched within  a minute of each, it was fantastic! The day was amazing, some real great acts and so much squeezed into one day: Tiney Tempah, Florence and the Machine, Professor Green, Chase & Status, Ben Howard, Rhianna, Jay Z and so many many more!!

Here’s what I wore, it was hot but wet and therefore a muddy field to contend with:

Sunglasses – H&M  |  Dress – Topshop  |  Jacket – H&M  |  Bag – Primark  |  Belt – Primark  |  Wellies – Hunter

Next day’s shopping outfit:

Jacket – H&M  |  Dress – H&M  |  Belt – Dorothy Perkins  |  Boots – H&M  |  Necklace – Topshop  |  Watch – River Island

Nail play

In a bid to brighten up my life I painted each nail a different colour, it also created the festival couldn’t-care-less-but-I-do-really look for my trip to Radio One’s Hackney Weekend!

With my ever present collection of rings with bright stones, the nails finished off my outfit perfectly! Will be rocking this nail look on my holidays very soon…

Bright Coral – Revlon  |  Yellow – Topshop  |  Aqua – Rimmel  |  Purple – Xtras  |  Shocking Pink – Barry M
